A smaller-scale convection setup that has been actively used for many years now.
Diameter 0.2 m.
Two heights available: 0.2 and 0.4 m.
Cylindrical container with square jacket, to be filled with water, offers optical access for PIV/PTV.
Heating plate made of copper.
Top covered with a sapphire plate connected to a water circulation cooling chamber, fully transparent from above.
Rayleigh number range: Ra = 1 x 108 - 1 x 109.
When placed on rotating table, Ekman numbers down to Ek = 3 x 10-6.
Small convection cell on the rotating table with 4-camera arrangement and LED illumination for PTV.
